Community Spotlight: Jay Odom & the J. Odom Group
For our inaugural Community Spotlight, Patio Vault recognizes Jay Odom and the J. Odom Group for a commitment to Northwest Florida measured not only in what they build, but in what they give back.

Building a community takes more than buildings, roads and neighborhoods. It takes schools, parks, places to gather, opportunities for children, support for families and people willing to invest back into the place where they do business.
The places we call home are shaped by what gets built, but their character is shaped by what people choose to give back. A school site can become a place where a child discovers what is possible. A ball field can become the setting for a first team, a family tradition or a friendship that lasts for years. Public spaces, charitable organizations and community partnerships create the connective tissue that turns development into belonging.
That is why Patio Vault chose Jay Odom and the J. Odom Group for our inaugural Community Spotlight. The recognition is not about a single project or gesture. It reflects a pattern of investment in Northwest Florida that the organization describes as central to its philosophy: supporting young people, strengthening local institutions and contributing resources, including land and infrastructure, that communities can use for generations.
Giving Back, Over Time
In its public company profile, the J. Odom Group reports contributing more than $1 million over the years to charitable and community organizations. The group describes youth and education as particular priorities, citing support for classroom initiatives, schools, education foundations and programs such as Adopt a Classroom and Take Stock in Children.
The same profile names a wider circle of organizations serving children and families, including Children in Crisis, Boys & Girls Clubs, the All Sports Association, Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude, Special Olympics, Opportunity Place, March of Dimes, Shelter House and Families First Network. The significance is larger than any list: community investment can create stability, opportunity and brighter futures for the people who live there.

Contributions That Go Beyond Checks
Some of the group’s most enduring community contributions have taken the form of land. The J. Odom Group says that, working with Walton County and Hammock Bay, it donated approximately 60 acres to the City of Freeport for a regional sports complex described as a roughly $20 million project. The City of Freeport confirms the 60-acre complex now includes baseball and multipurpose fields, courts, walking paths, a playground, splash pad and other recreation facilities.
That acreage matters because fields and facilities become places where children compete, families gather and community relationships form. Their value is measured not only in construction, but in evenings under the lights, weekend tournaments and the everyday rituals of a growing city.
Education has been part of that land-based investment as well. In 2013, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported that Crystal Beach Development, a company owned by Jay Odom, announced a donation of 30 acres in Hammock Bay to the Walton County School District. The planned school site was positioned beside the regional sports complex so students could have access to its athletic fields.
The organization also reports land contributions in Destin and the Crystal Beach area for public use and recreation, another reminder that thoughtful public space can be one of a community’s most durable shared assets.
Honoring Those Who Serve
At Uptown Station in Fort Walton Beach, the organization erected a 172-foot flagpole as a tribute to first responders, members of the armed forces and others who serve in uniform. The height draws attention, but the meaning matters more: a visible, lasting expression of gratitude to people whose service holds communities together in difficult moments.
Great communities don’t happen by accident.
Hammock Bay, Props and a Shared Vision
For Patio Vault, this recognition is also personal. Hammock Bay is home to our live showroom experience at Props Brewery,a community gathering place where people can sit, connect and experience outdoor living in a more natural way. We are grateful to Jay Odom and the J. Odom Group for supporting that vision and helping make it possible.
That support is meaningful to us, but it is not the reason for this recognition. The larger story came first: decades of investment in Northwest Florida; support for children, families and charitable organizations; and contributions of land and resources intended to serve the public long after a ribbon is cut.
A Community Is What We Put Back Into It
Great communities are shaped over years by people, businesses and organizations willing to invest time, resources, land, ideas and energy back into them. For the first Patio Vault Community Spotlight, we are proud to recognize Jay Odom and the J. Odom Group for helping make Northwest Florida a better place to live, gather, learn and grow.
